How to prevent the clicking sound when browsing and chatting: Not long ago, the people who make Internet Explorer thought it would be a good idea to make a clicking noise whenever a link is clicked or a new page loads in a Chat Room. Many find this annoying, here's how to turn it off:
For Windows XP:
- Click the Window's "Start" button (bottom of screen)
- Select "Control Panel"
- If it says "Pick a category" at the top of the
window, click "Sound, speech, and Audio Devices," then
click "Change the sound scheme;"
OR
If you just see a list of icons, double-click "Sounds and
Audio Devices," and then click on the "Sounds"
tab.
- Scroll down to the "Windows Explorer" section and
in that category click on "Start Navigation."
- In the "Sounds" section of the window, click on
the drop-down box and select "(None)" then click "OK."
For pre-XP Windows versions (95, 98, ME & 2000):
- Click the Window's "Start" button (bottom left
of screen)
- Go to Settings, then Control Panel, then click on "Sounds"
- Scroll to "Windows Explorer" section, then click
on "Start Navigation."
- In the "Sound" section , click the drop-down box
and select "No sounds" or "None" and click
OK.
