Dealing with Spam
Everyone who's had an email address for more than a few years gets more that their share of spam. OLI does not set the server-side filters too high or many of our customers would miss real email, that's why we recommend filtering spam on the client-side to ensure you don't miss real mail.
Here are some ideas that helped others in the past:
First, try not to list your email address on websites as spam-robots collect them there. Also, try not to use your business email address when ordering services, it is better to use a free email address that are widely available, then your business address isn't added to another spam list.
The easiest and most cost-effective (free) filtering of spam we found is built into the Thunderbird email software, works a lot like Outlook but has a "junk" folder that learns as you go. Download free here: http://www.mozilla.org/download.html
click "Tools" -- "Acccount Settings" -- "Junk Settings" to turn on the spam filter, which you can teach to detect what is and is not spam.
Another aggressive anti-spam option is available through third party services that verifies the sender of an email before it delivers the email to you, one such service is SpamArrest.com - more similar services can be found on Google by searching "challenge response spam filter."
If you have a set list of known email contacts, some people go as far as to change their email address (john@ becomes john1@) but this can be daunting as all contacts must be informed of the address change.
Finally, there are a variety of new client-side spam filters available from third-party companies, many are listed on Google by searching "spam filter." Here are some recommendations from techsupportalert.com:
