Our Chat Rooms work with all Web browsers. A browser is the software you are using to surf the web and view this page, that's all you need to use a chatroom from OLI. Make sure you have javascript and cookies enabled. There are no downloads or special requirements needed to use our chat rooms.
Instructions for the Chat Room Entrance:
Registration: most chatrooms require you to register a username and password before accessing the chat. Sometimes new registrations must first be approved by the Chat Admin before you can access the chat room.
Other optional features include choosing a chat color, listing your home page or chatting as an avatar, which is a picture that appears next to your name in the chat room.
After that simply click the login button to access the chatroom.
Inside the Chat Room:

looks like this:
You type your
message here and hit "enter" or "return" on your keyboard to post it (or click the send button). The screen will refresh and your message will appear below the older messages.
private messages: some chats allow members to 'whisper' private messages to each other within the chat room. Simply type a member's name in the "to:" box to send a private messages, or type "all" in the same box to post messages to everyone in the room.
log: this button shows you all the saved messages in the chat room. A new window will appear containing the saved messages. How long messages are saved is determined by the chat room owner when they order the room.
occupants: this shows all the users currently logged into the chat room.
log off: be sure to click this when your finished chatting. It tells everyone in the room you're leaving and removes you from the list of ccupants.
