It's easy to create Limited-Access FTP Users with their own private directories. The new user will be able to access the folder you assign them in Step 4 below. You can delete and change passwords anytime on the same page.
How to setup a limited-access user:
(Be sure to do Step 4 to avoid errors)
1. Login to the Control Panel and click "Limited-Access FTP Users" at the top left
2. Create the user first: Beneath where is says "Add New Limited Access Account" you type the login name and the password for the user. It is best to use all lowercase.
Note: if system says "That Login already exists" then use a different name as that one is already in use by another account on the shared server.
3. Next create the directory (folder) beneath where it says "Create Limited Access Directory." But don't forget the most important step that assigns the user to the directory:
4. - very important: Click where it says "Go Back." Beneath where it says "Current Limited Access Accounts" click the arrow to select the user, then click "Manage." Select the proper directory and click "Change" - be sure to click the "Change" button even if the directory already appears to be assigned to the user.

That's it! You can then access the FTP directory by using your domain as the host name and the new login info as they user name and password.
Other important notes:
When administering user accounts from your main login, you may need to specify the directory path in your FTP Software:
/home/restricted/YOUR-DOMAIN
example: /home/restricted/limited-user.oli.us
Note the "Used Disk Space" listed in the Control Panel may not show the usage of limited-access FTP user folders due to file permissions. The disk usage in limited-access folders is listed in most FTP software near the filename. Be sure to monitor this also to ensure it does not exceed the Total Disk Space quota.
Sub-folders within folders: If a Limited-Access User creates a sub-folder within their regular folder, the contents can only be deleted by that limited user as the ownership of sub-folders and their contents are assigned only to them. Therefore you can delete or manage these files only if you login as the limited user. Files in the limited user's top level folder can be deleted and managed by both the main admin user and the limited user.
It's possible for limited-users to see the folder names of other limited users in the account, but they cannot access the actual folder or its contents. Some customers create generic folder names (like "folder123") to add more privacy. But as long as you do step 4 mentioned above, they cannot access or view the actual folder content. Update: There is a workaround that hides the folder names from all, the only drawback is that it also hides them from the main ftp account, but the admin can always login as the limited user to make any changes to the folder content, and the admin can still administer/view all accounts from the control panel. Contact support if you want this workaround implemented which hides folder names from all other users.
SFTP Folder Structure: If a Limited FTP User access their folder via SFTP, they will need to click the "ftp" link to reach the proper directory for uploading and downloading, or specify the path when logging in. Also the web-based ftp uses SSL and which defaults to the right directory. Otherwise their files would appear in /home/limited-user-name
NEW: Your users no longer need FTP Software to upload and download files to their directory. We now offer Web-based FTP Access.
